CBC Calgary's Food Bank Drive hits $1M goal

Thanks to the generosity of Calgarians, $1 million has been raised in support of CBC Calgary's Food Bank Drive.

And it's not over yet! Donations being accepted until Dec. 23

Thanks to the generosity of Calgarians,$1 million hasbeen raisedin support of CBC Calgary's Food Bank Drive.

When the counting was done after Blitz Day Thursday afternoon, the total reached $948,123.45.

And it wasn't even 24 hours later when we hit ourtarget.

Blitz Day on Thursday featured a flurry of activity in the CBC lobby, with live broadcasts of the CalgaryEyeopenerand the Homestretchalong with live musical performances.


The Calgary Eyeopener

The Calgary Eyeopenerhadmusical performances by up-and-coming country star Sydney Mae.

DonHladiuk, CBC Calgary's star guy, set up his telescope outsideand broughtin a special stargazing package for a lucky donor. Julie VanRosendaal, the Eyeopener's food guide,also madea special Blitz Day appearance.

Gold medallist EricaWiebedropped by to talk about being wooed by the WWE. And wetalked to the kitchen manager of the Drop-In Centre about making dinner for 1,000 people with whatever the food bank has on offer.

The Homestretch

A musical performanceby YYC Music Award winners Bebo Grove was one of the highlights during theHomestretch.

Marathon runner Martin Parnell also stopped bywith this new book, Running to the Edge.One fortunate donor won a copy along with a Learn to Run a Marathon package.

Jean Grande-Maitre, artistic director of Alberta Ballet, also dropped byto discuss The Nutcracker.
