Falconridge fire that killed 5 men still under investigation by police

More than 48 hours after a house fire killed five people in northeast Calgary, police are still working to determine whether anything about the blaze was criminal in nature.

More than 48 hours after a housefire killed five people in northeast Calgary, police are still working to determine whether anythingabout the blaze wascriminal in nature.

The fire was first reportedat about 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of FalchurchCrescent N.E., and firefighters arrived to find one home engulfed in flames and another beginning to burn.

Thebodies of five adult men were recovered from the house where the fire originated.

Elizabeth Banguot has lived next doorfor a few years, and saidthe owner'swife and children moved away a few months ago, andfour other men moved in.

She's hoping for answers soon.

"We feel sad and nervous and we don't know what happened. What is the cause of the fire?We don't know it," she said.

At this point, she'll still have to wait.

"Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and awaiting the completion of autopsies on the victims, and therefore have not yet determined if there is anything suspicious about this fire," police said Monday in a release.

It isstandard procedure for police to investigate fires that involve fatalities.

The autopsies are expectedto be completed later Monday or sometime on Tuesday.
