Woman killed as car slams into SUV at stop sign in Coalhurst

A woman was killed on Monday when her SUV was struck by a car as she waited at a stop sign in Coalhurst, Alta., RCMP say.

A woman was killed on Monday when her SUV was struckby a car as she waited at a stop sign in Coalhurst, Alta., RCMP say.

The woman was stopped at the 51st Avenue intersection on Highway 3 when a westbound Volkswagen Jetta collided with her Ford Escape at about 7:15 p.m.

The 66-year-old woman, who was alone in the SUV, died at the scene.

The driver of the Jetta was taken to the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge with undetermined but non-life-threating injuries.

It's believed alcohol and speed were contributing factors. Road conditions were good at the time.

The name of the woman who died will not be released, RCMP said.
