Man killed in head-on crash with semi was suspect in earlier violent domestic assault, police say

Police say a man who was killed early Tuesday morning in a head-on crash on Highway 22X in southeast is suspected of seriously assaulting a woman minutes earlier in a possible domestic incident in Copperfield.

Police say a man who was killed early Tuesday morning in a head-on crash on Highway 22X in southeast Calgary is suspected of seriously assaulting a woman minutes earlier in a possible domestic incident.

Officers were called at about 1:15 a.m. to a residence in Copperfield, where they found a woman needing medical care who appeared to have been the victim of domestic assault.

As police were looking for the suspect, officers were notified that awhite pickup truckand a semi-trailer had collided head-on on Highway 22X at 104th Street S.E., just east of Stoney Trail, at about 1:30 a.m.

The driver of the pickup was killed. The other driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"As the collision is believed to be related to the earlier domestic matter, no further information can be released," police said in a release.
