Fatal Deerfoot Trail crash possibly caused by medical emergency, police say

A woman who was killed when her car crossed into oncoming traffic on Deerfoot Trail on Thursday night might have been having a medical emergency, police say.

A woman whowas killed when her carcrossed into oncoming traffic on Deerfoot Trail on Thursday night might have been having a medical emergency, police say.

At about 8 p.m., a southbound Ford Mustang coming from Stoney Trail went over the median, colliding with a northbound Chevrolet Malibu coming from Country Hills Boulevard.

The 67-year-old driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old woman, who was alone in the Chevrolet, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"Police are investigating the possibility of an onset of a medical emergency as a contributing factor in this collision," police said in a release.
