Minivan driver dies after slamming into back of parked semitrailer on Highway 2

A motorist died after he drove into the back of a semitrailer parked on the side of Highway 2 early Wednesday, according to RCMP.

Didsbury Mounties say truck had pulled over to the shoulder and had its hazard lights on

A motorist is dead after he drove into the back of a semitrailer parked onthe side of Highway 2 early Wednesday, RCMPsay.

The crash happened near Didsbury, Alta., at about 1 a.m.

The driver of the minivanhas been identified as a 59-year-old resident of Red Deer, Alta. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mounties said the semi had pulled over on the shoulder of the northbound lanes with its hazard lights activated when the crash happened. The Dodge Caravan was driving north when it struck the rear of the trailer.

Traffic was diverted for a shorttime while emergency crews and a collision reconstructionist were at the scene.

The RCMPsaid no charges are anticipated.
