Man dies in southeast Calgary residential fire

One person has died in a house fire in Deer Ridge in southeast Calgary.

Damage mostly contained to one residence of triplex

One person has died in a house fire in Deer Ridge in southeast Calgary.

Crews were called to a triplex in the 100-block of Deerview Way S.E. at about 10:50 p.m., the Calgary Fire Department said in a release.

With flames coming from the basement, a second alarm was called as crews fought the fire.

It was quickly brought under control withexterior hose lines and an elevated stream from an aerial apparatus, the release said.

A man found inside the residence was declared dead at the scene. The man's name has not been released.

Damage to theother units ofthe building was minimal.

The cause of the fire and the fatality are under investigation.
