Helicopter chased man to a baseball diamond where he took own life, police say
Police are still investigating the motive behind a violent home invasion in the city's northeast that left two victims in hospitaland the only suspect dead, apparentlyfrom his own hand.
Reportsof a potential home invasion on Beddington Drive came in around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Policechased the suspect into a park with the help of a helicopter, but police said he took his own life before he could be taken into custody.
There were reports that two people in the homeIrvinLandherr, in hismid-60s,and his daughter KaraLandherr, in her 30s had been stabbed.Theywere taken to hospital and are now in stable condition.
There was a third person in the home at the time who was uninjured, according to police.
Another call
Earlier on Sunday there was another call of a suspicious man knocking on someone's doorand police were already in the area, but it's not clear if that was the suspect in the home invasion.
Police are still trying to determine if there is a connection between the suspect and the victims.
"We don't have the identity of the suspect and we haven't been able to interview the people from inside that house because of their injuries. We still need to confirm some of that information," saidInsp. Phil Hoetger.
'They don't have any enemies as far as I know'
Neighbourssaid they were shaken by the incident.
"This has got to be such a random thing because, honestly ...they didn't have any enemies as far as I know. They were the loveliest people ever," said Cindy Horvath.
Scott Slade was walking his dog when emergency crews arrived at the home.
"Next thing I noticed is police cars taking off to the park behind us then the HAWCShelicopter shining a light down on the field," he said.
"Looks like they found the guy and I guess from what I'm hearing the guy took his own life."
