Former Hutterite sees life through new lens

Kelly Hofer spent most of his life on a Manitoba Hutterite colony.

So when he picked up a new hobby it ruffled some feathers in the traditional community.

Hofer started taking photographs of daily life on the colony, which is in conflict with a Bible passage that Hutteritesclaim prohibits them from having their photograph willingly taken.

Hofer left the colony a few weeks ago to start a new life in Calgary.

He now spends his days working and photographing people in his favourite placeStephen Avenue.

The Eyeopener's Danielle Suchet talked to the local photographer about his work and life after the colony.
