Funerals set for men killed in plane crash

The funeral for Sheldon Reid, one of four men killed in a plane crash near Kelowna earlier this month, will be held on Wednesday.

Former Alberta premier Jim Prentice died in a plane crash that also took the lives of his friends Dr. Ken Gellatly, Sheldon Reid, and pilot Jim Kruk.

The funeral for Sheldon Reid, one of four men killed in a plane crash near Kelowna earlier this month, will be held on Wednesday.

A funeral for Dr. Ken Gellatly, also killed in the crash, was held on Monday.

The service for Reid, 60, will be held at 2 p.m. at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home (24223 Township Rd. 242). Donations in his memory are requested to go to the Parkinson Society of Alberta.

The memorial for Gellatly, 64, was Monday at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 15th Ave. S.W.), at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Gellatly's family is requesting donations be made to Canadian Vision Care in his memory.

The crash also claimed the lives of former premier Jim Prentice, 60, and pilot Jim Kruk, 62.

A funeral for Kruk was held Oct. 21 in Airdrie.

A state memorial will be held for Prentice at 11 a.m. Friday at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, which will be broadcast live by CBC.

The four had flown to B.C. to play golf Oct. 13 and were headed back to Springbank Airport when the crash happened shortly after takeoff.

The Transportation Safety Board says while its work at the crash site has been completed, the investigation will take some time to complete.

The wreckage will be taken to the TSB's lab in Ottawa, officials say. Investigators will look into the pilot's background, review the weather conditions, radar information, all communications with air traffic control and examine the aircraft's records.

Officials have already revealed the plane did not have flight data or voice recorders on board and there were no distress callsbefore it crashed.
