The driver of a truck who struck and seriously injured a young girl in a northwest Calgary neighbourhood was her father, police have confirmed in a statement Friday.

The seven-year-old child was standing on the sidewalk in front of her Tuscany home when her father backed out of the driveway in his 2012 Chevrolet Silverado.

Police and EMS responded to the 200 block of Tuscany Glen Park N.W. Thursday just before 5 p.m.

The girl had serious head trauma and was rushed to Alberta Children's Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Police say alcohol and speed were not factors.
