A Calgary man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the beating death of his common-law wife in 2011.

A Calgary man has been sentenced to 10years in prison for the beating death of his common-law wife in 2011.

Gregory Houlepleaded guilty to manslaughter in December 2013.

He wasoriginally charged with second-degree murder.

Police found the body of 45-year-old Cherry Ledesma decomposing under a pile of laundry in the home the couple shared with two roommates.

Police had been called to the home 37 times in the year preceding Ledesma's death.

Houle will serve roughlynine moreyearsafter time already spent in custody.
