Grizzly bear attacks ATV riders west of Calgary

One man is in hospital after he and another man were charged by a grizzlybear while they wereriding ATVs in the MD of Bighorn west of Calgary.

EMS and STARS air ambulance were called to the area around Highway 940 and Hunter Valley Road at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The two men were ridingATVswhen they came across the grizzly bear and her cubs. When they tried to leave the area, the bear charged and knocked the men from their vehicles. They fired bear spray and the animalssoon retreated.

One 31-year-old man was flown to hospital and is in serious but stable condition, while the other man was treated on scene for minor injuries.
