Grizzly bears frequenting Lake Louise area prompt special warning

Grizzly bears are frequenting the busy Lake Louise townsite and surrounding areas, according to Parks Canada officials who issued a special warning Tuesday morning.

Visitors advised to take precautions and report any bear sightings immediately

After numerous grizzly sightings around Lake Louise and area, Parks Canada issued a special warning for the townsite, Tramline Trail, Bow River Trail and Louise Creek Trail, and the Lake Louise Campground. (The Associated Press)

Grizzly bears are frequenting the busy Lake Louise townsite and surrounding areas, according to Parks Canada officials who issued a special warning Tuesday morning.

"Special caution is recommended while travelling or camping in this area," the warning said.

The affected areas includethe townsite, theTramline Trail, Bow River Trailand Louise CreekTrail, as well as theLake Louise Campground.

Anyone travelling in the area is advised to make noise when hiking, keep all pets on a leash and to carry bear spray and know how to use it.

Cyclists and trail runners are specificallyadvised to slow down when travelling through dense shrubs or around blind corners to reduce the risk of catching a bear by surprise.

Anyone who spots a bear is asked to report it immediately to thevisitor centreor Banff park dispatch at 403-762-1473.
