Guns and gangs police unit makes 4 arrests in Calgary

Four Calgarians face mutlipleviolence, weapons and drugcharges following investigations led by the Calgary police guns and gangs unit.

The arrests were made in connection to three recent incidents.

Last October, someone opened fire following an altercation between two groupsoutside Mr. Schnapps Pub in northeast Calgary after several people had been thrown out.

One man was shot in the leg and several patrons inside the bar had to dive for cover as the bullets flew.

One person inside the bar was injured by flying glass.

A 26-year-old man was arrested about three weeks later and charged with two counts of aggravated assault andmultiple weapons offences.

2nd incident

In an unrelated case, a man has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in October in the northeast community of Pineridge.

Two groups were meeting in cars parked next to each other when someone fired shots from one car at another, police said.

The driver was shot in the face.

A 22-year-old man fled the scene and turned himself into police three days later. Hewas charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, five counts of failing to comply and multiple firearms offences.

3rd incident

The third incident happened on New Years Day and police believe it to be connected to the shooting at Mr. Schnapps Pub.

Shots were fired at a home in a drive-by shooting in thenortheast community of Rundle.

No one was injured. Two men, a 20-year-old and a 23-year-old, were arrested on Jan. 3 and charged with multiple weapons and drug offences.

Search warrants related to the two men turned up cocaine, oxycodone and a loaded handgun, police said.

Police believe all three incidents were targeted.

4th incident

Though police have yet to make any arrests, it's believed a shooting at the Co-op VillageSquare Centre gas bar in the northeast is also connected to organized crime.

A man sustained minor injuries after at least three shots from a rifle were fired.
