Heat warnings blanket much of eastern, central Alberta

A sizable chunk of Alberta is under heat warnings with temperatures pushing up against 30 C, Environment Canada is warning.

A sizable chunk of Alberta is under heat warnings with temperatures pushing up against 30 C, Environment Canada is warning.

The warnings cover a large area fromFort McMurrayin the north down toMedicine Hat in the south.

"Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness," the agency said in a statement issued early Monday morning.

Beat the heat without AC by following these cool house tips.

"Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated."

People are urged to move outdoor activities to a cooler time of the day, take lots of breaks, drink lots of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol and keep tabs on vulnerable people like children and seniors and of course, pets.
