Heat warnings issued for southern Alberta communities
Daytime highs exceeding 32 C has Environment Canada concerned about heat stroke, exhaustion
Environment Canada says southern Alberta is about to heat upthis week.
Heat warnings have been issued for several communities:
- Calgary.
- Brooks, Strathmore,Vulcan.
- Cardston,FortMacleod,Magrath.
- Hanna, Coronation, Oyen.
- Cypress Hills Provincial Park,Foremost.
- Drumheller, Three Hills.
- Lethbridge, Taber, Milk River.
- Medicine Hat, Suffield, Bow Island.
- Okotoks, High River, Claresholm.
- Red Deer,Ponoka,Innisfail,Stettler.
The agency says daytime temperatures could exceed 32 C through Wednesday and possibly beyond.
"A ridge of high pressure combined with warm south winds will result in temperatures significantly above normal for the beginning of the week," said Environment Canada on its website.
Heat stroke and heat exhaustion could result.Drinking plenty of water and other liquids that don't contain alcohol or caffeine is recommended.
Children, seniors and people with some pre-existing health conditions are particularly at risk, the agency says.
