High-risk offender released in Calgary, police warn

Police say 31-year-old Aaron Edward Gatza is being released in the city on Friday. He is being monitored by police and correctional authorities.

Calgary police warned Friday of a high-risk offender being released in the city.

They say Aaron Edward Gatza, 31, is being released in the community after serving a nearfour-year sentence for breaching a long-term supervision order and failing to comply with prohibition order regarding children.

Police say Gatzaremains the subjectof a 10-year long-term supervision order stemming from incidents of sexual assault.

According to a police statement, the manhas multiple previous convictions for sexual assault, assault, uttering threats, criminal harassment, breach of a long-term supervision order and failing to comply with a court order.

"Most of his crimes have occurred in Sudbury, Ont. and Calgary and have targeted underage females," it said.

Gatza is described as 5'8" tall, 181 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is being monitored by police and correctional authorities.

"Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process [of notification] is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action," police said.
