High River family moves on after flood fight with province

After months of fighting the province, a family from High River is tried of waiting for the province to provide compensation and moving on with their lives.

The Tymchyna family's home was destroyed in June's historic flooding. For the past four months, the family has been living in the Great Plains temporary housing community in southeast Calgary while they and 18 other families fought the province for compensation. Now, they're heading north to Grande Prairie.

"It's definitely a little sad saying goodbye to a house, a life here," said Greg Tymchyna during one last visit to their High River house. "We're ready to move forward with something new."

Despite driving away Saturday morning, the family is still paying their mortgage on the empty, uninhabitable house in High River.

The family moved down from northern Alberta just one year before their house was destroyed in the floods.

Their four children are all under the age of six and while this latest move across the province is exhausting, the family says it iswhat they need to move forward.

"Moving inwas a really new start in a good way," said Ainsley Tymchyna. "This is a different kind of new start."

They are still waiting to hear from the province on their flood compensation claims.
