RCMP in Alberta victims of assault with a car and attempted hit-and-run

One Cochrane RCMP officer was dragged by a fleeing car, while two High River RCMP officers narrowly missed being hit at a checkstop on Saturday morning.

One CochraneRCMP officer was dragged by a fleeing car, while two High River RCMP officers narrowly missed being hit at a checkstop on Saturday morning.

Around 2:20 a.m. members of the Cochrane detachment were called to help an Alberta Sheriff who had stopped a suspicious vehicle on Highway 22.

While RCMP were assisting the Sheriff, the white GMC Sierra pickupdrove forward and dragged an officer, according to police.

The truck drove into Calgary and despite help from the Calgary police, the occupants, a man and a woman, escaped.

Cochrane RCMP are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

High River

A little earlier, around 12:30 a.m.,High River RCMP had to be quick on their feetin order to avoid being hit by a car speeding through a checkstop.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle, but it spedtowards two officers who had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over, RCMP said.

Okotoks RCMP located the vehicle shortly thereafter, but the driver continued to elude police.

Eventually, thevehicle was damaged and became stuck, and the occupants fled on foot. According to the RCMP, two suspects, a man and a woman,were taken into custody with the help of police dogs andthe Calgary police helicopter.

Charges are pending.
