Highway 42 crash kills 1 Cremona teen, critically injures another

RCMP in Innisfail saycharges are pending after a weekend collision between a tow truck and an SUV that killed one teenager and critically injured another.

Police said the collision happened Saturday when the truck, which was towing another vehicle,tried to turn west onto Highway 42 from Range Road 273 when it collided with an eastbound RAV4.

The 17-year-old female driver of the RAV4 was killed and her passenger, a 19-year-old male, was airlifted to hospital in Calgary where police said he remained in critical condition Monday.

The driver and passenger of the tow truck were not injured.

Police continue to investigate with the assistance of theRCMPcollision reconstruction unit, but saycharges are pending.

The crash site is just east of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, about 15 kilometres south of Red Deer.

Both teens were fromCremona, according to police.
