Fatal injuries due to hit-and-run incident outside southeast lounge, Calgary police say

Investigators looking into a fatal altercation outside a southeast Calgary lounge now believe the 32-year-old man's injuries were due to a hit and run.

Investigators looking into a fatal altercation outside a southeast Calgary lounge now believe the 32-year-old man's injuries were due to a hit and run.

Police say they were called to a disturbance outside the Portico Lounge, in the 1800 block of 35th Street S.E., around5 a.m. on Monday.

On arrival,officers found signs of an altercation and indications someonemight bein "medical distress," police said in a release.

Roughly 20 minutes later, according to investigators, police were told a severely injured man had been brought tothe Peter Louhgeed Centre, a northeast Calgary hospital, where he died of his injuries.

An autopsy on Wednesday identified him asAwed TesgayGhebremeskel, 32.

Police said ithey are seeking the public's help in identifying those involved in the incident. They are alsoseeking information about a black Dodge Caliberwith damage to the passenger-side rear end.

"We are working very closely with investigators in our traffic unit to investigate this death," saidStaff Sgt. Sean Gregson in a media statement.

"At this time, we are focusing our efforts on identifying those involved so we can determine whether or not this death was intentional."
