Calgary Homeless Foundation breaks ground on new complex in Raddison Heights-Albert Park

An affordable housing complex that will take two dozen homeless people off Calgary streets broke ground in the southeast community of Raddison Heights-Albert Park Wednesday.

Kevin McNichol with the Calgary Homeless Foundation says the Resolve campaign is now about half way to its goal.

"There are plans for about 11 buildings and we need a number more on top of that in addition the support of private landlords and rental spaces that we are also able to make use of to house about 3,500 homeless people that we have in the city."

The current complex will house 23 "very vulnerable people" with services and supportto address issues of mental health and addiction, he said.

The future building at 1719 34th St. S.E. is near a grocery store and the public transit hub along 17th Avenue S.E.

These apartments, once built, bring the total Resolve plan to about 125 units of their 240 goal.
