Calgary is about to join Vancouver and Markham, Ont., when a new 60,000-square-foot indoor bike park opens its doors later this summer in the city's northeast.

"Finding a building was one of the hardest parts," co-owner Ryan Greenberg told CBC News.

But Greenberg and his wife eventually found one, searching for about two years andB-Line Indoor Bike Park was born.

The park, set to open in August, will accommodate about 200 to 250 riders at a time.

"We are going to have features for all levels, from beginner to expert," Greenberg said.

"It will be similar to a ski hill, pay for your drop-in fee and feel free to stay all day long and get a good ride in."

Greenberg got the idea for a park after he built some ramps in front of his house for his young daughters and neighbourhood kids couldn't get enough of it.

He says he visited indoor parks around North America to get ideas. The two main parks currently in Canada are in Vancouver and Markham, Ont.

BMX Freestyle cycling was confirmed as a new Olympic event for the Tokyo 2020 games last Friday and Greenberg hopes his park could be a training venue, as well as for riders who want a year-round experience.

"I think it's going to be a great venue for families that like to get outside and bike, but with the weather here and the long winters and the wet summers we have had recently, this is a good opportunity to ride all year long."
