Inmate dies at Calgary Correctional Centre
Man in his 30s found in medical distress alone in a cell Tuesday
An inmate at the Calgary Correctional Centre died in acell alone on Tuesday, a spokesperson with Alberta Justice confirmedto CBC News.
Michelle Davio said in an emailthe inmate was found in medical distress.
"Emergency medical services were provided, however the individual passed away,"Daviosaid.
Paramedics saidthe inmate was a man in his mid30s.
Stuart Brideaux of EMS said the medical examiner will have to determine the cause of death, but a media report attributing the death to a fentanyl overdose cannot be confirmed until further investigation.
Davio said an internal investigation has been launched, the Calgary police are involved and a"fatality inquiry is anticipated."
