Crash kills 3 people, badly injures young child near Irricana
Child airlifted in serious condition to Calgary after Highway 9 collision
Three people were killed and a five-year-old girl wasseriously injured in a two-vehicle collision near the town of Irricana, Alta.,Friday morning, EMS officials say.
Thechild was airlifted to hospital after the collision northeast of Calgary.
The two people in thecar with the child were in their 20s, and the driver of the other vehicle was a 69-year-old woman. There were no other passengers.
The collision happened shortly after 10 a.m. on Highway 9 near Township Road 264, RCMP say.
The child was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary.RCMPsaid she remains in hospital in serious conditionas of Friday evening.
Highway 9 between Kathyrnand Irricanareopened for travel at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Irricana is about 60 kilometres northeast of Calgary.
RCMP said the collision will require extensive investigation and further information on the crash will not be provided.
