High-risk offender James Parent released in Calgary days after rearrest

A high-risk offender released in Calgary earlier this month and then rearrested has once again been allowed out of custody, police say.

A high-risk offender released in Calgary earlier this month and then rearrested has once again been allowed out of custody, police say.

James Alexander Parent, 58, was released fromBowdenInstitution after serving a sentence for sexual assault causing bodily harm, disguise with intent, unlawful confinement, break and enter, uttering threats and mischief.

Police issued a special warning about his release on Aug. 5.

But Parent was re-arrested in downtown Calgary on Aug. 11 on a Canada-wide warrant after Correctional Services of Canada (CSC)suspended his statutory release.

Officials did not reveal what prompted the decision to take Parent back into custody.

On Monday, Calgary police said in a release that Parent "has been released after further investigation."

He will continue to be subjected to electronic monitoring by CSC, police said.

Parent also has past convictions for a violent sexual assault in 1987 and sexual offences against a child.
