Jan. 25: Calgary weather reaches record high temperature

It may be the middle of winter but people in Calgary were enjoying temperatures of 17 C Sunday afternoon.

It may be the middle of winter but sun, shorts and Slurpees were the order of the day for many people in southern Alberta Sunday.

Environment Canada initially predicted a high of 13 Cbutthe mercury was pushing 17 C in Calgary by 3 p.m. MT.

The warm weather broke record temperatures as the highest on record was set back in 2007 at 13.1C.

Patios were open downtown and were full of people eager to revel in the temporary spring-like temperatures.

"I'm actually hot.We're gonna start complaining about the heat soon," said Tim Gilhuly, who was enjoying the weather downtown.

According to Environment Canada, the warm weather is expected to last into Tuesday, and more record breaking temperatures could be in store.
