A judge has granted a 30-day extension for a psychiatric assessment of accused killer Jin Qing Huang.

Huang, 42, appeared in court briefly Wednesday, accused of first-degree murderin the death of Tiejun Huang, 51, an acupuncturistwho was stabbed at his medical clinic on June 16.

Outside court, Huang's lawyer AdrianoIovinelli spoke to reporters.

"You could conclude that there are some mental health issues," he said.

"The question is whether or not that affects the person's ability to instruct and appreciate the process. So fitness is different from just having mental health concerns, and that's why we need this report to be done."

Even though the victim and accusedshare a surname, police saidthey are not related.

Jin Qing Huang is accused of attacking TiejunHuang, allegedlybelieving there was an inappropriate relationship between his wife and the acupuncturist, according to police.
