The Kensington Legion has revealed plans for two new buildings on its West Hillhurst property in northwest Calgary.

The new legion headquarters will be built by Truman Development Corporation in exchange for land at the site.

If the city gives the plan the green light, the 62-year-old legion will be demolished to make way for a new three-storey facility featuring a bar with patios, underground parking and room to lease out on the top floor.

Kensington Legion trustee Mark Barham says the plan is to have it built by December 2016.

"We'll get a new modern facility, more of a destination location for the neighbourhood, for people just to come by, just to go ahead and enjoy themselves," he said.

In exchange for building the new $10-million legion, Truman will get possession of two thirds of the existing property.

The developer has plans for an additional 10-storey building with retail space on the bottom floor and residential suites above.
