'Excessive speed' cited after driver crashes into Calgary KFC, hitting family of 3 inside

Calgary police say charges are being considered after a driver believed to have been speeding failed to negotiate a turn and crashed through the window of a KFC, hitting two adults and a baby inside the restaurant.

Calgary police say charges are being considered after a driver believed to have been speeding failed to negotiate a turn and crashed through the window of a KFC, hitting two adults and a baby inside the restaurant.

Police say a woman driving agrey Acura was travelling eastbound on 17th Avenue S.W. around 6:20 p.m. on Monday when shearrived at the intersection with 12th Street, past which point the avenue wasclosed for construction.

The driver then tried to make a sharp left turn onto northbound 12th Street, according to police, but instead drove through the front window of the fried-chicken restaurant.

Her car hit a family of three inside the building a 33-year-old man, a 30-year-old womanand an eight-month-old infant who were sitting at a table near the window.

Police say the adults were transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

The man has since been upgraded to serious but stable condition, while the woman has suffered life-altering injuries, according to police.

The baby was treated and released.

Paramedics said the driver of the car was assessed on scene and was not injured.

Police said in a release that "excessivespeedis considered a factor in the collision."
