Police release images of person of interest after woman attacked near Prince's Island Park

Calgary police released security camera images of a person of interest on Tuesday after a woman walking near Prince's Island Park fought off a knife-wielding attacker lastweekend.

Investigators said a woman was walking from the park along the Bow River pathway around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday when she was grabbed from behind by an unidentified person.

The attacker, who was holding a knife,attempted to drag the woman toward the river, but she fought back and managed to get away. Shereached a nearby security guard, who called police.

In a Tuesday update, police released closed-circuit TV images of a "person of interest related to this case." They said they are hoping the public will be able to help police identify and locate the person.

Police described the person as wearing a dark jacket and a light-coloured tuque with a mask, and carrying a green or grey "tactical-style" backpack.

"Calgary remains a safe city. However, we are a big city with big city challenges, and we all need to work together to ensure a vibrant downtown that is safe and welcoming for all," said Staff Sgt. Greg Cooper in anews release Tuesday.
