Kristoffer Del Campo sentenced to 6 years for running down girlfriend Lacey Manion

The family of a woman killed when her boyfriend intentionally mowed her down with his car say they are angry he won't be spending more time in prison.

Kristoffer Del Campo pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday in the August2013 death of Lacey Manion.

Crown and defence both proposed a six-year sentence which the judge accepted. Del Campo hasfour years left to serve.

"The damage that this kind of a crime does to a family it tears a family apart,"Manion'smother,YvonneDenomey, told the court.

"Our family needs some closure and I just wanted that person that took my daughter's life to know how we all felt," saidDenomey, who came tocourtwith several family members, including one ofManion'sthree children.

Parking lot argument

Emergency crews arrived at the 4200 block ofMacleodTrail in August2013 to find LaceyManionpinned under the car. She waspronounced deadat the scene.

KristofferDelCampowas immediately taken into custody.

His trial on a charge of second-degree murder was to begin today but instead, hepleaded guilty to manslaughter.

DelCampohad rented the car under a fake name, according to an agreed statement of facts.

He andManionhad an argument while in a parking lot.She got out and sprayed pop into the car and walked away leaving the passenger door open.

Hedrove over the sidewalk, onto42ndAvenue and pushed her across several lanes of traffic, with the car coming to rest on top of her.

"One bad decision has changed their lives forever, taken a piece of their hearts they'll never get back," said JusticeSalLoVecchio.

Several members of Manion's friends and family could be heard quietly crying.

"No sentence, nothing can undo what has been done," saidLoVecchio.

"All we can do is say to Mr. DelCampothat hisconduct is unacceptable in a civilized society."

Credit card fraud

DelCampostood and addressed the court briefly while sobbing.

"I'm sorry," he said.

At the time of her death, bothManionand DelCampofaced multiple charges in connectionwith a Medicine Hatcase involving identity theft and the fraudulent use of credit cards.

DelCampohas been ordered to be deported to the Philippines after he serves his sentence.
