Kristopher Guenther's murder trial hears dramatic 911 call

Accused murderer Kristopher Guenther told Andrew Thorstienson he didn't want to die as he was hanging by a rope on a Calgary bridge, a courtroom heard Thursday.

Guenther is accused of strangling his formerfianceLacey Jones McKnightand driving around with her body in his car shortly before the suicide attempt.

When Thorstiensongot out of his car, he could see Guenther "kicking and dangling"from the bridge with a rope around his neck.

Thorstiensoncan be heard panting as he tries to pull the stranger to safety.

"He's hanging himself off the bridge with a rope," said Thorstienson.

"Hold on buddy, I got ya," Thorstienson can be heard saying to Guenther.

"I can't pull him up," he tellsthe dispatcher.

"Andrew, you're doing a great job," she tells him.

Despite his efforts, Thorstienson couldn't get anyone else to pull over and help. Finally, a police officer arrived and the two successfully pulled Guenther to safety. By then about 20 other officers had arrived.

Thorstienson had no idea the man he saved would be arrested for murder immediately after.
