Laser shone in officer's eye lands 2 men in Calgary police custody

Calgary police took two men in custody after someone shone a laser in the eyes of an officer on Monday night.

Suspects' vehicle followed all the way from deep south to northwest mall after officer struck by beam

Police said an officer was struck in the eye by a green laser beam while conducting a traffic stop.

Calgary police took two men in custody after someone shone a laser in anofficer's eyeon Monday night.

Det. Andy Nguyensaid the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. in the city's deep south, where two men were seen shining a laser from a vehicle.

"They shone a green laser beam on the side-view mirror of the marked police car which ended up striking the member in the eye,"Nguyensaid.

The officer who was struck by the beamwas conducting a traffic stop near the intersection ofBonaventure Drive and Southland Drive S.E.

With help from a police helicopter,officers followed the suspects' vehicle all the way to Market Mall in the northwest,where the driver then fled on foot.

He was caught and taken into custody, along withthe passenger in the vehicle.

Nguyensaid policewill be talking to the Crown on Tuesdayabout what charges should be laid.
