Lethbridge store clerk confined in back room by 'enraged' man

Police in Lethbridge arrested a suspect after a man entered a convenience store and screamed at a store clerk, threw things around and then confined the woman to a back room.

Police in Lethbridge, Alta., arrested a suspect after a man entered a convenience store and screamed at a store clerk, tossingthings around before chasing her andconfiningher in a back room.

Officers were called to the 7-Elevenstore on Columbia Boulevard at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday.

The man was extremely agitated and seemed to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance, police said in a release.

After a short standoff, officersarrested a 30-year-old man, but he "continued to have outbursts where he would become enraged and scream."

The woman was badly shaken by the incidentbut not physically hurt.

At the police station, the man continued to struggle with police and kicked the arresting officers, police said.

Jason Samuel McCrae, 30, was charged with uttering threats, unlawful confinement, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, causing a disturbance, assaulting a police officer and breach of an undertaking.

He was released from custody and is set to appear in court on Nov. 30.
