Lethbridge police charge pair over counterfeit $100 U.S. bills

Lethbridge police have charged two people with passing fake $100 U.S. bills around the city over the last few days.

The 26-year-old man and 34-year-old woman used the counterfeit currency at restaurants, stores and motels starting on Monday, investigators allege.

Police were contacted Wednesday after a woman tried to use a fake bill at a clothing store in the north of the citythat had been hit by a man using counterfeit bills the day before.

The male accused was arrestedoutside Sobeys, and officers seized a stash of fake bills and a small quantity of methamphetamine, police said.The female accused was arrested inside theWalmart nearby.

The pair is set to appear in court Friday.

Police say more charges are likely, as officers believe the couple committed similar crimes in other jurisdictions, including Edmonton and High River.
