Lethbridge school locked down after man with hatchet enters

Charges are pending against a 37-year-old man following an incident in Lethbridge that prompted a school lockdown.

Charges are pending against a 37-year-old man following an incident in Lethbridge that prompted a school lockdown.

A man entered the Mike Mountain Horse School around10 a.m. Wednesdaysaying he was being chased and that he had a weapon, police said in a release.

No weapon was seen and staff managed to contain the man in an empty room.

The school was locked down as a precaution.

When policearrived,they took the man into custody. At that point, officers found a hatchet concealed in his coat.

Police conducted a room-by-room search of the school and found no other suspects.

There were no injuries during the incident.

The man might have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police say.

Several charges are pending, including possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
