Lethbridge police have laid charges after a man allegedly convinced a sales agent that he was an interested homebuyer and then sexually assaulted her in a property for sale.

The 23-year-old woman was working at a show home on May 29 when the suspect entered and asked to see another property down the block, according to police.

A news release says she went with the suspect to the property and he sexually assaulted her while she was showing the basement.

"Prior to leaving the home, the victim was able to message her coworkers in the area for help and a colleague attended just as the subject was driving away," reads the release.

"A description of the suspect and his vehicle were provided to police and he was identified and located a short time later. The male was arrested without incident."

Maneesh Kumar Khokar, 42, faces one count of sexual assault. He was released from custody with conditions.

Khokar is scheduled to appear in court on July 16.

He was not known to the woman.

Police are not releasing the name of the company the victim worked for or the location of the incident in order to protect her identity.
