Lethbridge police arrest 59-year-old man after random sexual assault on teen

Lethbridge police have arrested a 59-year-old man after he allegedly snuck into a home and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.

Lethbridge police have arrested a 59-year-old convicted sex offenderafter he allegedly snuck into ahome and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.

According to police, the man entered the north side home through a basement door some time between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

Once inside, he found the girl asleep in her room and "took steps to prevent her from screaming and waking up the other members of her family then proceeded to sexually assault her," according to a media release.

Police were called at 5:14 a.m. and cordoned off the area around the home. They located the suspect by 5:30 a.m. and arrested him shortly thereafter without incident.

According to Lethbridge police, the suspect and the victim were not known to each other.
