Man accused of 2 Alberta shootings arrested, charged with murder

A man accusedof two Alberta shootings has been arrested and charged with murder. Lyle Vance is accused of shooting a 47-year-old man from Olds on March 20 and 10 days later is accused of fatally shooting Aaron Castle in Calgary.

A man accusedof two Alberta shootings has been arrested and charged with murder.

After several public appeals for information, police have laid second-degree murder and attempted murder chargesagainst Lyle Robert Walter Vance, 27.

Vance is accused of fatally shooting Aaron Castle, 39, in Calgary on March 30.

He is also accused of shooting a 47-year-old man in Olds, Alta., on March 20 in"a dispute over money."

Around 1 a.m. on March 30, several people in the northeast Calgary community of Pineridge called 911 reporting gunshots.

Castle, 39, was found in medical distress when police arrived. He died at the scene.

A second victim was also shot at the scene but survived.

Castle was born in Regina and adopted when he was just over a year old, according to his obituary.

His family described him as a "kind and delightful child full of curiosity and energy," but they also said he struggled with substance abuse for much of his life.

Olds shooting

On March 25, Olds RCMP issued warrants for Vance's arrest in connection with a shooting near the town.

Police said at the time thatthree people allegedly including Vance went to see the victimon March 20 to "settle a dispute over money and belongings."

The discussion became heated, RCMP said, at which point one of the men allegedly shot the victim. Vance faced 10 charges stemming from that incident.

RCMP released Vance's photo but warned the public not to approach him, alleging that he could be armed and dangerous.

Vance is scheduled to appear in court on June 22.
