24-year-old man identified as Beltline homicide victim

Homicide investigators believe about 10 people were "involved in an altercation in the area" on the morning Craig Cutter was found fatally injured.

A 24-year-old man died after being stabbed during a large altercationon the weekend in Calgary's Beltline, police say.

The death was first deemed suspicious but has since been ruled a homicide, the Calgary Police Service said in a release Tuesday.

The deceased man has been identified as Craig Cutter.

An autopsy was conducted Monday and confirmed that Cutter died as a result of being stabbed.

Police had said officers were investigating a suspicious death after a man in his 20s was found in the 200 block of 15th AvenueS.E. shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

The man was injured and in medical distress. He later died in hospital.

Homicide investigators believe about 10 people were "involved in an altercation in the area" on the morning Cutter was found wounded,the statement said.

Investigators are not sure if he was involved in that particular altercation, and they have not determined the motive for either the altercation or his stabbing.
