Man in serious condition after downtown Calgary shooting

Calgary police are investigating after a man was shot on 17th Avenue southwest on Monday afternoon.

Calgary police are investigating after a man was shot in downtown Calgary on Monday afternoon.

Policeresponded to reports of ashooting at 2:50 p.m. at the 1000 block of 17th Avenue southwest, a busy downtown street.

EMS responded shortly after and found the victim, a man in his late teens, withtraumatic injuries consistent with a firearm.

The man was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in serious but stable condition, said EMS.

It is believed the man suffered a gun shot wound to his arm, police said in a statement.

Following the incident, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle fleeing the scene. While any suspects have yet to be located, police are asking those who were in the area of 17th Avenue southwestbetween ninthand 11th streetbetween 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. to come forward with information.

"There were lots of people in the area, for sure," a spokesperson told CBC News.

Police were unableto confirm if the shooting on 17th Avenue is related to a shooting earlier in the day in Calgary's Acadia community.
