Man who killed, dismembered friend gets 10 years

A Calgary man who admitted to stabbing and chopping up his friend has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

A Calgary man who admitted to stabbing a friend to death and chopping up his body has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

During a sentencing Tuesday, provincial court Judge John Bascom gave Dean Commanda, 23, a credit of two years for time served, reducingthe time he will spend behind barsto eight years.

Commandapleaded guilty to manslaughter and interfering with a dead body.

Commanda fatally stabbed his close friend Chad Largy, 22, during a fight in Commanda's southwest Calgary condo on Jan. 19, 2006, then cut up his body and hid the remains, according to a statement of facts agreed on by the Crown and defence lawyers.

Largy's severed arm was found in a dumpster in southwest Calgary the next day, sparking a police investigation.
