Materials fall from downtown highrise under construction

Officials are investigating after materials fell more than 30 floors from a construction site in downtown Calgary Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries in late afternoon incident in Calgary core

Officials are investigating after materials fell more than 30 floors from a construction site in downtown Calgary Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened at the Eighth Avenue Place tower under construction at Fifth Street and Eighth Avenue S.W.

Its believed several pieces of metal fell to the ground, police said.

Nobody was injured and no vehicles were damaged.

There have been several incidents of construction material falling from highrise projects in Calgary in the last few years.

The most serious case happened in 2009 when a piece of corrugated metal killed three-year-old Michelle Krsek and injured her father and brother.
