Man charged over fatal shootings in Superstore parking lot likely knew victims, police say

A 20-year-old Calgary man has been arrested and charged in the shooting deaths of two men in a Superstore parking lot over the May long weekend.

Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, police responded to the parking lot located at 130th Avenue and 48th Street S.E. for reports of gunshots.

Two men AneesAmr, 26, and ColinReitberger, 23 were pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, police arrested Christian Joffre Ouellette. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Calgary police Insp. DonColeman said they believe the men were known to each other and the incident was drug related.

"I think the relationship of the accused to the victims would be in a criminal network association-type manner," Coleman said.

Hunting for third vehicle

After an investigation that included interviews with around a dozen witnesses, police say they believe the two victims arrived at the parking lot together.

Coleman said police believe Ouellettedrove to the Superstore alone, committed the homicides and left. The vehicle was recovered shortly after the shootings in the northeast part of the city, east of the airport.

Police are looking for the driver of an older model red Dodge DurangoSLT that dropped Ouellette off at a gas station on Freeport Blvd. N.E. after the murders.

"We anticipate that the person who was in that vehicle, driving, that picked up maybe he knew Mr. Ouellette, maybe he didn't, maybe he just picked him up. We don'tknow what the circumstances are," Coleman said.

Police are also asking for the public's help to locateWilliamKincade-Miller, who they say may have more information about the incident. Kincade-Miller is believed to be making his way across the country to New Brunswick.

Kincade-Miller is wanted by police for breaching parole conditions and possible weapons offences, unrelated to this crime.

Coleman said Ouellette is known to police, but wouldn't comment on Ouellette's history. However, CBC News has confirmed Ouelletteand his father, who shares the same name, were both charged in June 2016 with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Ouellettewas also charged at the time with firing a gun, two counts of possession of a weapon and benefiting from crime. Those matters are still before the courts.

His father, a Calgary defence lawyer, was disbarred in July 2016. Charges against him were stayed in November.

Ouelletteis due in court for the homicide chargeson June 12.
