Mayor Nenshi pleased with Redford's cabinet

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he likes what he sees in the new cabinet of Premier Alison Redford.

Mayor says he's looking forward to working with Doug Griffiths and Manmeet Bhullar

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he likes what he sees in Premier Alison Redfords new provincial cabinet.

Nenshi said Wednesday he's personally familiar with the new ministers in what he considers key jobs for the city of Calgary -- cabinet posts like municipal affairs, transportation and environment.

In particular, Nenshi said hes pleased former Progressive Conservative leadership candidate Doug Griffiths is now the minister of municipal affairs.

"I'm looking forward to having a conversation with Mr. Griffiths, with minister Griffiths now, about the city charters, about how we finance municipalities," said Nenshi.

"Both he, in his campaign and Premier Redford in her campaign, agreed with me that our system of financing municipalities is terribly broken and so I'm looking forward trying to fix it and getting to work on a city charter for Calgary."

Nenshi said he is also happy another young politician from east of Deerfoot Trail, Manmeet Bhullar, was named the government's lead political minister for Calgary.

Bhullar, the youngest cabinet minister at 31-years-old, is also the minister responsible for Service Alberta.
