Mayor's Urban Design awards celebrate Calgary's new looks
From the playful to the functional, biennial celebration runs the gamut
Every two years, the City of Calgary celebrates the best of design and architecture with the Mayor's Urban Design awards.
This year's recipients cover everything from instant bandshells to area design guidelines.
There were a record-breaking 68 nominations this year and featured three new categories: the Green City award, the People's Choice award and the Urban Architecture (unbuilt) award.
In total, 13 projects were recognized, with a further 13 earning honourable mentions.
"Increasingly, Calgary is gaining a national and international reputation for iconic and memorabledesign," said David Down, coordinator of urban designand heritage in a press release.
"Well-designedbuildings and public spaces have the power to inspire the people who interact with them every day."
