Calgary police try to ID driver of truck that dropped off homicide victim at restaurant prior to killing

Police are asking for help from the public to identify the driver of a truck who is believed to have crucial information about a homicide outside a southwest Calgary restaurant last month.

On Feb. 19 at about 11:20 p.m., police were called to the parking lot of the Mazaj Lounge and Restaurant at 9223 Macleod Trail S.W., after reports of a man in medical distress.

When EMS arrived, 32-year-old Daniel Dudgeon was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Dudgeon had been dropped off at the restaurant at 9 p.m. by someone driving a black Dodge Ram truck, police said in a release on Wednesday.

Police released a CCTV image of Dudgeon getting out of the truck in the hope that someone can identify the driver.

The driver is not in trouble and investigators simply need to ask him or her some questions about the victim, police said.

"We are making progress piecing together the events of that night in order to find those responsible for Daniel's death," said homicide unit Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm.

"The driver of this truck has information that will help us fill in some gaps and we are hoping that either they will come forward or someone else will let us know who was driving."
