Lane reversal launches at Memorial Drive and Edmonton Trail

Commuters on Memorial Drive will have to contend with a new lane reversal system at Edmonton Trail and Fourth Street N.E. starting Monday that the city says should trim traffic delays by 30 per cent.

From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekdays excluding holidays there will be two left turn lanes from westbound Memorial Drive, allowing drivers to head southonto theLangevinBridgeinto the downtown core.

The rest of the time, there will betwo left turn lanes from eastbound Memorial Drive, allowing drivers to head northon Edmonton Trail N.E.

The changes also include reducing the speed limit on Memorial Drivethrough the area from70 to 50 km/h.

The city produceda YouTube video to explain the project and the changes.

New two-wayseparated bike laneswere also installed earlier this fall onEdmonton Trail from Memorial Drive to SecondAvenue N.E. as well as the south side of FirstAvenue from Edmonton Trail to Fourth Street N.E.
